Needs Assessment and Market Analysis: Better Understanding of Displaced Syrians’ JOurney Towards Self-Reliance in Turkey – Current Needs, Barriers, Challenges, and Pathways

Project Presentation

Trust was commissioned by DRC to assess the changing needs and understand the current status of People of Concern (PoC) (refugees/displaced population/asylum seeking households) in four main areas of operation: Hatay, Sanliurfa, Kilis and Kahramanmaras. A mixed methods approach was used which was supported by a desk review including a service mapping exercise, 16 focus group discussions with 115 participants, and 368 surveys using the Self Reliance Index (SRI) which measures the progress of PoC households towards self-reliance over time. 20 KIIs were conducted and the questions were defined by the interview tools but were open ended, with follow-up questions (probes) and explanations (prompts) to understand the responses and elicit more details. Additionally Trust conducted a market analysis assessing key enabling and constraining factors to conduct business and identifying strategies to support earning or employment opportunities for displaced Syrians locally/regionally, whether in self or wage employment.
