Trust was recently contracted to conduct a Final Project Evaluation of WfWI’s ‘Addressing Violence against Syrian Refugee Women in the Kurdistan Region of Northern Iraq’ project. This project provided income generation opportunities and improved access to gender-based violence (GBV) protection services for Syrian refugee women in Kurdistan. The activities of this project also included working with local community leaders to promote better prevention of and response to GBV in the refugee and host communities. The support consisted of a comprehensive training program to increase knowledge, skills, and resource access. It also includes training for male allies, to improve awareness of violence against women and girls (VAW/G) at the community level. Trust designed a comprehensive methodology to achieve the objectives of the evaluation which were to provide a comprehensive assessment of intended and unintended results of the project, including the causes and implications of those results, to learn from the project to support future programming, and to demonstrate accountability to the donor and compliance with UN Women’s Policies and Procedures. Trust carried out 234 beneficiary surveys, 28 KIIs with representatives of local NGOs and CSOs, male community leaders, and wider GBV service providers, and 6 FGDs with beneficiaries of project activities.
