Trust partnered with Johns Hopkins University to conduct a study assessing the state of the pharmaceutical sector in Syria, with key research questions including mapping the pharmaceutical supply chain, assessing the quality of medicines circulating in Syria, and identifying operational challenges.
The study used a mixed-methods approach consisting of a literature review and analysis of secondary data from across Syria in conjunction with primary data collection in 30 randomly selected communities in opposition-controlled areas. Primary data collection includes 660 household surveys, 40 community focus group discussions, 80 structured observations at warehouses and pharmacies and 150 key informant interviews with a range of stakeholders across the sector. The findings will be presented in a final report addressing the key research questions and putting forward recommendations for the project implementation in the pharmaceutical sector.
