Trust for Consultancy & Development and Bridging Peoples have collaboratively conducted a study on ‘The Impact of Humanitarian Assistance on Local Markets and Societies in Syria‘
The research team has revealed a preliminary finding that about 75% of Syrians have sold some of their assets to provide for food and primary health care.
The Syrian Crisis have been described by the UN as the “biggest humanitarian emergency of our era” with around 1 million Syrians killed, and about 11 million of them becoming IDPs and refugees.
The Crisis has caused complete economic paralysis with a level of poverty amounting to 86.7% according to a recent German study in 2016. The World Bank and other UN agencies estimate the cost of the damage in Syria to be at 350 billion US dollars, while reconstruction costs are estimated at 52 billion US dollars.
Trust and Bridging Peoples’s joint research team is currently analyzing the data collected by field research teams in two areas in North West Syria. When ready, the study will be published to inform international and local humanitarian agencies’ decisions about their programs in Syria.
